Missouri River Days at a Glance

Reflecting on Missouri River Days

Each year, 4th-grade students from Columbia Public Schools have the opportunity to visit the Missouri River with their class for a one of kind learning experience. Missouri River Days is a half-day fieldtrip on the Missouri River based out of Cooper's Landing Riverside Resort & Marina, in Columbia, MO.

Who Leads Missouri River Days?

Missouri River Days is held in partnership between Missouri River Relief and the Columbia Public Schools Science Department.

As a nonprofit organization whose mission is to connect people to the Missouri River, Missouri River Relief achieves this through hands-on river cleanups, education programs and outreach events.

River Experience

Students will receive a one-of-a-kind learning experience that incorporates spectacular views of the Missouri River all while learning about the channelization of the river.

Look Through the Eyes of Historical Explorers

Studying the observations and sketches from the scientific journals of Lewis and Clark, students will learn how to create a watercolor sketch of their own to bring home.

Meet a Fisheries Biologist

Students get up close and personal with the fish that call the Missouri River home as they meet some of the scientists that are helping the river's ecosystem.

Observational is a Skill

Using cottonwood forest as our laboratory, students will make careful observations and ask questions to learn about the plants found in the Missouri River bottom.

Spring 2022

During the Spring semester of 2022, Missouri River Relief undertook the task of taking out 1,329 students over the course of six days. The scale of this program was born from the desire to share this experience with as many classes as possible following the cancelation of prior years' due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students and teachers boarded Missouri River Relief boats for a fieldtrip like no other. Along the river banks,  students visited live fish and painted scenic views of the Missouri River landscape.

We are proud to be a part of Columbia Public School District’s Partners In Education Program and are partnered with the Columbia Public Schools Science Department to offer this program.

We would also like to thank Bass Pro Shops & Cabela's Outdoor Fund and the City of Columbia Office of Sustainability for sponsoring this year's event.
