Brunswick Grand and Missouri River Cleanup 2014

Brunswick Marina  - Brunswick, MO
Saturday, September 6th, 2014

We kicked off our Big Muddy Clean Sweep 2014 with a great cleanup of the Grand and Missouri Rivers based out of the sweet river town of Brunswick. 81 volunteers removed 2.1 tons of junk from the banks of both rivers.

Brunswick is one of the nicest river towns there is, and that's saying a lot. We set up camp at the Brunswick Marina pavilion, and the whole time we were there our friends in the community kept stopping by to give us food, drinks or just to check in with us.

Colleen Johnson stopped by the day before the clean-up asking if there was anyway she could help. We mentioned that we could use a couple extra hands to prepare lunches for volunteers. She showed up the next day with a box of tomatoes and 8 friends! Mayor Joe Moser let us use his water nearby. The Short brothers, Jeffrey and Dallas, kept stopping by all weekend to help out. They worked all day for the clean-up too.

Thank you to the Missouri River Chillicothe crew from MDC for bringing boats (plus Greg Pitchford gave a presentation on fisheries biology), AGRIServices of Brunswick for their donation and for bringing a front end loader, Brunswick Distributing Company for donating lunch and drinks for volunteers, UpRiver Urban Exchange for their wifi support and prize donations.

This was our first clean-up of the Big Muddy Clean Sweep, a two-month long cleanup from Brunswick to Hermann.
