Big Muddy Clean Sweep 2011

September 10th- October 29th, 2011
Kansas City, Cooper's Landing, Jefferson City, Mokane, Hermann, New Haven, Washington, St. Charles, St. Louis

The Big Muddy Clean Sweep was a success! Thanks to everyone that made it happen, from our generous sponsors and partners to many volunteers to hardworking crew!

The Big Muddy Clean Sweep was the keystone event of our 10th year cleaning up the Missouri River. We chartered a barge to stop in communities along the river for clean-ups, river education and celebration!

Thank you to everyone who made it happen! 1473 volunteers removed over 60 tons of trash from the Missouri River this fall. Keep checking in on this page as we update with more results, photos and stories.

More about the barge...

The barge and towboat we will be using is called the "River Cleanup". It's owned by Chad Pregracke and the Living Lands & Waters river cleanup organization.

These are the folks that inspired us 10 years ago to cleanup the Missouri River, and keep helping us make it happen. They are getting a new barge and tug and saw this as an opportunity to offer us the equipment to take things up a notch on the Big Muddy!

Barge Partners

It would be really tough to get this barge upstream without the amazing assistance of the Missouri River barge industry. These companies "gave us a lift" upstream to Jefferson City:

Also, our trash barge and work flat were lent to us, no charge, by:

  • Gateway Dredging
  • US Army Corps of Engineers, Gasconade Yard

And the offloading of the trash barge was accomplished by the amazing crew led by Capt. Bryant Tubbs at Humboldt Boat Service.
