Upriver Clean-ups in the Bag!

Siouxland Clean-up is in the bag.

We just wrapped up several weeks of events in South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska. Thanks to the help of some really wonderful partners and volunteers, there are 15 fewer tons of junk on the Missouri River.

New River Relief Video

It's called "Gathered by Thousands, Measured in Tons", and it's a look at the work Missouri River Relief volunteers have accomplished during the past 10 years and why.

Jodi Pfefferkorn of Flaming Fiddle Productions and the Columbia/Kansas City marketing agency Woodruff Sweitzer put this piece together using historical footage from past Missouri River Relief events.

The infamous flying carp

One of the most "charismatic megafauna" of the Missouri River doesn't actually belong there. Actually, there are several species of recently introduced asian carp that are changing the ecosystem of the river.

Throughout the Mississippi River watershed, and now potentially the Great Lakes, "Flying Carp" have been flopping their way into people's boats and all over You-Tube. But much of the havoc they are wreaking is under water. USGS biologist Duane Chapman has been on the front lines of the asian carp invasion across the world. He'll join us for an update on what is being learned about these new big river inhabitants and their effects on our rivers.
