Washington Missouri River Clean-up
****Cancelled****June 14 , 2008
9:00am to noon
UPDATE: We regret to inform you that our Washington River Clean-up has been Canceled due to the Missouri River entering flood stage and covering the parking lot and boat ramp the clean-up was headquartered in. But the River Festival will continue!!!! Click here for more info on the River Festival! »
Last year, we got a call from our friend Mike Smith, high school teacher from Washington. He had just been on a Missouri River sandbar reading From the Bottom Up, Chad Pregracke's inspiring biography about the growth of Living Lands & Waters co-written by Missouri River Relief's Jeff Barrow. And it got him so inspired he wanted to do a river clean-up in Washington.
We had been in town once before, in 2004, but had been wanting to come back. So this was the perfect opportunity!
Come down to the river and help us clean it up! The Clean-up will be followed by the Washington River Festival, chock full of music, education and kid's activities. Click here for details on the River Festival »
Clean-up time
9:00am to noon, Saturday, June 14th (or stay later to help with the trash haul!)
Clean-up headquarters
Washington Riverfront Park Boat Ramp
What we're doing
Boats will ferry volunteers to the river banks to pick up trash that has washed up on shore. Landlubbers can help pick up trash along the riverfront, park and nearby dumpsites.
What you get
Volunteers will receive a t-shirt, gloves, water, lunch and a boat ride on the Big Muddy.
What to bring
Sunglasses, sunscreen, sturdy mud boots or river shoes (no flip-flops!), long pants (preferred), a reusable water container (to cut down on waste) and a willingness to get down and dirty!
Local Boaters
You are welcome to bring your own boat to join in the clean-up! Private boats can't take out registered volunteers, but you are welcome to stop by to pick up a t-shirt, gloves and trash bags. Take out friends and family and join in the fun. Lunch is on us! Haul your trash back to the ramp or let us know where to pick it up.
****Directions will be posted soon****
The Washington River Festival and Missouri River Clean-up is proudly sponsored by the Missouri Dept. of Natural Resources, L-A-D Foundation, John and Alex Jansen and Missouri River Relief.
